Ode to July
The perfect month to open Saison!
July is my birth month. The height of summer, juicy with stone fruit, fragrant with herbs and flowers, the air heavy and warm. It’s always been my favorite month.
I love the long days that seem to stretch forever, the grassy green smell after a rainstorm, hazy evenings and the starry night sky. It’s nostalgic and sweet. It’s the month I find myself thinking about in the depths of winter and clinging to when it’s here.
There is something about the warmth that truly soothes my soul. The air hugs my skin and the chill I’ve been carrying for months escapes. My shoulders finally soften, and my body lets out a long exhale. The city quiets down and everyone moves a bit slower. For me, summer has always felt like happiness.
Long before I signed the lease for the bakery, I knew I wanted to open it in July.
When I think about Saison, I think about abundance. Bowls of ripe peaches on the counter. Fresh flowers spilling from vintage pitchers. The scent of butter and berries drifting out an open door. Slow mornings, afternoon coffee, friends lingering over cake. The feeling of gathering and celebrating the season while it’s here.
July has always embodied that spirit for me. So it feels especially fitting that this little bakery is beginning its life now, in my favorite month. Like she’s arriving exactly when she was meant to. A small celebration of summer, and the start of something I’ve been dreaming about for a very long time.
